NTSC vs. PAL
The Sentinel operates on a NTSC (National Television System Committee) signal, the standard in North American countries. You may also have heard of the PAL (Phase Alternating Line) format, which is generally used in European countries.
The main differences?
NTSC format offers a full resolution of 720 x 480, with a frame rate of 29.97 frames per second (fps), while PAL format uses a maximum resolution of
768 x 576, with a frame rate of exactly 25 fps. Following the NTSC standard, our camera displays 480 lines per frame. Anything higher than 480 is only needed for other types of data, like captioning. To put it simply, while NTSC has a lower resolution, it also updates the screen more frequently than PAL, so it renders
motion better, for a less jerky picture.

As a North American customer, it's unlikely that you'll run into the PAL format. We set the Sentinel video signal to the North American standard NTSC signal for maximum efficiency, so you can start recording video footage as soon as your Sentinel is fully set up.
